| Dear Flower Friends, Well, the best laid plans of mice and farmers….. Turns out some of my family came down with the flu over the holidays and the west coast is largely under water. So, travel plans shifted a bit. Instead of a long road trip, my brother and I will be gallivanting around AZ and NM for a couple of weeks this month. We decided not to risk getting stuck in a motel halfway to Seattle. Very prudent of us, I thought. This means that in addition to baking 7 different kinds of cookies for the holidays and cooking up a storm, I’ve managed to work my way through the to-do list for the upcoming season. The planting schedule is mostly complete, the shed has been cleaned, supplies and seeds have been counted and a thorough purge of saved boxes and newspapers has been accomplished. I feel readier at the start of the season than ever. Sowing seeds for the 2026 flower season begins soon. And there’s so much to look forward to! Mostly, I’m looking forward to the flowers and seeing other flower lovers like you again! |

This unusual weather will be good for the dahlias that are overwintering, but may not be for the tulips, which require several weeks of cold to bloom in the early spring. I’m still hopeful, though, since the ground temperature is 15-20 degrees colder than the air temp. Fingers crossed!
